COVID-19 Booster Clinic Information

CDR and RCIL held two COVID-19 booster clinics in January.

Approximately 50 people received booster shots. We also facilitated getting at home booster shots. We continued to provide accessible transportation for those whose only way of getting a booster was by means of our transportation.

CDR and RCIL continue efforts to make sure vaccinations/booster shots are available and ensure that everyone is as protected as possible against COVID-19 and its variant/s.

People 12 and older are now eligible for their COVID-19 booster

Taking Steps to Vaccinate People with Disabilities (and others) Locally

Disabled people and older adults – and especially those who are institutionalized and/or living with chronic illness – are at increased risk of contracting and dying from COVID-19.

Although people in residential programs and other institutional settings received vaccinations, members of the Disability Community outside these settings found that their ability to access the vaccine was hindered by accessibility issues at mass vaccination sites, as well as barriers to navigate the state’s vaccination scheduling websites.

Recognizing the need to vaccinate members of the Disability Community, the Monroe County Department of Public Health contacted CDR to partner with them in helping get people vaccinated.

CDR was able to coordinate clinics and provide space for vaccinations in our office at 497 State Street, located in the Center of the City of Rochester, but did not have staff who could administer vaccines. The Monroe County Department of Public Health stepped in and identified medical providers – Acute Kids Urgent Care and nurses from the Rochester Psychiatric Center – who could administer the vaccines at CDR.

To date, this partnership has resulted in 12 vaccine clinics, vaccinating 180 people with disabilities, attendants, and others in the Greater Rochester community. We have also connected literally hundreds of other disabled people and attendants to mass vaccination sites so they could protect themselves and others.

Get Vaccinated at CDR!

Although there are a lot of options for getting vaccinated, CDR’s State Street office is an accessible location where elderly individuals and people with disabilities can get vaccinated. CDR can accommodate people with all types of disabilities and our building is located in the Center City of Rochester, at the corner of Jay and State Streets. Located on multiple bus routes and near downtown, CDR’s building is fully and easily accessible to those who use public transit.

If you or someone you know is interested in getting vaccinated at CDR, email us at vax@cdrnys.org or call (585) 697-1660.

Fighting to Save Lives by Addressing Vaccine Hesitancy

CDR staff have been calling disabled individuals to provide accurate information about the vaccine and to minimize disinformation, in the hopes of getting more people vaccinated. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) distributed funds to both CDR and the Regional Center for Independent Living to support vaccination efforts. CDR used some of this funding to produce and air local commercials to encourage people to get vaccinated and remind the general public that by getting vaccinated they protect not only themselves, but also help protect elderly and disabled people from the virus.

Self-Care Activities

It is important to remember to take care of your emotional well-being during these stressful times. Here are some free self-care activities put together by our friends at New York Association of Independent Living (NYAIL).
