Center for Disability Rights to Assist Any Individual Impacted by Home Care Information Breach and Calls Upon Local Legal Community to Support This Effort
October 20, 2015 (Rochester, NY) – Details continue to unfold about confidential and protected health information being compromised, misused or stolen from Angels in Your Home. The Center for Disability Rights (CDR) stands ready to assist the individuals whose information has been breached.
Marco Altieri, the former CEO of Angels in Your Home, a licensed homecare agency that is paid through Medicaid to provide services to ensure people with disabilities can live in the community, has used confidential and protected health information from Angels in Your Home to begin operations of a new home care agency, All-American Homecare. Based on public statements, both Angels in Your Home and Mr. Altieri have retained legal counsel in this matter.
“Every party involved in this appalling situation has secured legal representation, except for the individuals whose protected health information has been compromised, misused, or stolen” said CDR’s Director of Advocacy, Stephanie Woodward, “We’re committed to assisting the people who have been impacted the most by this breach – disabled people and their workers.”
Any individual who is now or has been a consumer or attendant through Angels in Your Home who is concerned that their confidential information may have been compromised is encouraged to contact the Center for Disability Rights to learn about their rights and options.
The Center for Disability Rights also calls upon the local legal community to assist individuals who have been impacted by this breach. There are hundreds of disabled individuals and attendants whose information has been compromised, misused, or stolen. These individuals deserve to have their rights protected and may require legal counsel. Any attorneys or firms that are willing to assist should contact the Center for Disability Rights.
“Having uncovered this breach, we immediately notified impacted individuals we serve and the authorities. Now we are coordinating an effort to secure legal representation for the impacted individuals because no one else is making sure their interests are being represented,” said Bruce Darling, President/CEO of the Center for Disability Rights.
Concerned Individuals should contact the Center for Disability Rights at (585) 546-7510 and ask to speak to someone specifically about their legal options related to this breach of their confidential and protected health information.
CDR has also contacted the NYS Department of Health, the NYS Attorney General’s office and the Office for Civil Rights at the US Department of Health and Human Services which oversees compliance with federal laws protecting confidential health information.
