If you can’t make it to City Hall, then City Hall comes to you. Rochester Mayor Bob Duffy took City Hall on the road Tuesday evening.

“What we are hoping to do is come and listen to the concerns that people have in terms of our services,” said Duffy. “We’re here to listen. We’re here to follow through.”

And it’s not just neighborhoods. Tuesday evening, Duffy and his team visited with members of the local disabled community.

“When the mayor came to our candidate forum back in October, one of the things he committed to was having one of the on the roads here at the Center for Disability Rights,” said Director Chris Hildebrant.

This is the first time Duffy and his administration have come to the Center for Disability Rights. He said he wants his departments to know what they can do to improve the lives of everybody in Rochester.

The meeting gave residents like Bobbi Wallach a chance to express their concerns and share their ideas. Wallach’s idea is to have handicap-accessible taxi cabs.

“I think it’s very important that we get handicap accessible taxis,” said Wallach. “New York City did it. It took them five years, but they did it. So, I don’t know why Rochester can’t.”

Wallach said it would give residents and visitors the chance to experience what Rochester has to offer.

“He thought it was a very interesting idea, and my response was I’m going to follow up on this,” she added.

The center said the meeting was a symbolic gesture from the Duffy administration.

“We’re always in good communication and they are responsive to us,” said Hilderbrant. “We know government can’t do everything that we want, but it’s a very good dialogue with the Duffy administration.”
