Dean DeRusso

We have some additional exciting news. The bill is currently on the floor of the Assembly and Senate as of April 6, 2010. A hearty Thank You to Assembly member Mark J. F. Schroeder and Senator Joseph E. Robach for introducing the bill.

Currently, the bill has been transferred to the Assembly’s and Senate’s Transportation committees. It would be greatly appreciated if everyone could call and/or send a letter of support to their local Assembly member and Senator to sign onto the bill as a co-sponsor.

There will be no need to contact Schroeder or Robach at this time other than writing a letter to thank them for sponsoring the bill that will allow deaf truck drivers to drive without their hearing aids in the State of New York.

You can also tell the committee members that deaf people should be allowed to drive trucks with a Class A license without hearing aids because the driving of 18-wheelers is about driving skills not hearing.

The bill numbers are: A.6920 (Assemblyman Schroeder) and S.4407 (Senator Robach).
