Queens Against Goodwill

When I was asked to join the Queens Against Goodwill campaign, I was excited because it just makes sense to pay all people equally. Hearing that so many companies are allowed to pay less because of disabilities isn’t right or fair! When I learned that there were certificates under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) that legally allowed companies to pay as low as $.02 an hour, that totally bummed me out!

Queens Against Goodwill has made me not want to shop anywhere that treats people like they are less than others who don’t have a disability. I am happy to spread that message to through this campaign! As a King Against Goodwill, I would not want others to go there without having the facts. It’s pretty disappointing that a company that has so much money to spend on CEO’s and Executives would treat people like slaves and try to justify it by telling the world the people who work there love their jobs. Who wouldn’t love to be exploited for labor?

There is a YouTube video of a group of disabled people who confronted a Goodwill in Greece, NY of not paying their workers equally. I was shocked that in the video the guy didn’t even defend himself. He just kept saying they wouldn’t give up their certificates. I couldn’t believe something like that happened in our own backyard! I’m just sayin’ we should all try to treat each other equally and fight against unequal pay for people with disabilities!

DID YOU KNOW: As of December 2015, there was 107 businesses in New York State that were approved for sub-minimum wage certificates?
