Independent Living Centers Write to Senator Schumer Urging Disability Integration Act in Response to the Pandemic

In the letter below, Independent Living Centers across New York point out the DIA would mitigate the devastation of this pandemic and future pandemics.  It would ensure that disabled and older Americans could shelter in place and socially distance in the safety of community living rather than in the close quarters of a congregate setting such as a nursing facility.  To underscore this critical point, the New York network of Independent Living Centers have sent a letter to Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer to urge him to recognize that legislation he wrote, the Disability Integration Act (DIA/S117), offers this comprehensive solution for avoiding the enormous death tolls we have seen sweep through congregate settings during the coronavirus pandemic.
