On October 30th, from 5:00 to 7:30 pm, the Center for Disability Rights (CDR) will host their FREE annual “Accessible Trick-or-Treat” Halloween event. For many children with physical or sensory disabilities, going door-to-door to trick-or-treat may be a challenge, if it is an option at all. CDR converts its office space into a fun, safe and fully accessible “neighborhood.” In this environment, children with and without disabilities can come together and enjoy the best part of Halloween. We will be decorating our 22,000 square foot office and children have the opportunity to collect candy, play games to receive prizes, enjoy treats and more!
From 4pm-5pm, early admission is available to children in a low sensory environment; however, you must RSVP to events@cdrnys.org in advance. You also may contact us if you have a child older than 10 years of age with a disability that would like to attend our event. Our event is scent-free and non-smoking, and adult supervision is required; costumes are strongly encouraged! If you have any further questions about our event, we encourage you to contact us at either events@cdrnys.org, or at 585-546-7510, and ask for the Director of Development.
This event is only possible through:
1) The generous support and donations from businesses in our community. CDR would greatly appreciate monetary donations, gift card donations, and/or in-kind donations (i.e. Halloween decorations, candy, prize giveaway) to help ensure the success of this event.
2) Community volunteers who make the event a reality. Decorating our building is a considerable task, and this year we are seeking volunteers to help us prepare in the weeks leading up to it. We also need volunteers that afternoon and evening, starting at 3:00pm and 4:30pm, for a variety of roles such as giving out candy to kids, working in the game room, and much more!
Please contact us at events@cdrnys.org, or at 585-546-7510, and ask for the Director of Development, if you are interested in making a donation, want to volunteer, or would like to learn more about how you can help us make our Accessible Trick-or-Treat event a success!
