As we approach the giving season of the year known as the Holidays, it is important to give to meaningful causes.  One way you can play your part is by not supporting organizations that do not support the fair wages for workers with disabilities.  Did you know that approximately 40% of Goodwill affiliates throughout the nation support the payment of less than the minimum wage for its workers with disabilities?  Amazon has decided to partner with Goodwill in sending empty boxes to individuals that can be filled with products to be donated to Goodwill.  We ask Amazon to stop this because even though it’s a great idea to help others, supporting Goodwill means supporting the payment of sub-minimum wages for workers with disabilities.  By Amazon creating such an agreement, Amazon is sending the message that paying disabled workers pennies per hour is a good thing and is okay.

The Disability Community includes many Amazon shoppers and we strongly disagree with this position and demand Amazon not to continue the partnership.  If Amazon continues to participate in such a program, Amazon is condoning the practice of paying disabled people less than minimum wage and treating people with disabilities unequally.  The payment of sub-minimum wages to Disabled Americans has to stop and has been going on for 78 years too long!

You can help ensure this wrongful practice stops by agreeing to work with the Federal Representatives of the United States Congress ensuring they will continue to co-sponsor the Transitioning to Integrated & Meaningful Employment (TIME) legislation that has been pending in Congress for several years! Through the power that Amazon possesses, the Disability Community needs Amazon to commit to standing with us instead of working against us for the equal rights and fair pay we equally deserve!
