Employment Specialist

| Summary: Under direct supervision, the Employment Specialist serves as a member of a team that provides core Independent Living services and specialized employment services to people with disabilities to support Disabled youth and adults in securing and maintaining gainful, competitive employment. |
| Duties: Perform outreach activities, including activities in informal social settings, which identify individuals with disabilities receiving subminimum wage and educate them about the option of securing competitive integrated employment. Work with program participants that are referred by ACCES-VR and/ or identified in the SWTCIE Project to assess their interests, skills, and qualifications to develop Individualized Vocational Plans to secure competitive integrated employment. Provide one-on-one and group employment readiness skills training. Activities include assisting and training consumers in preparing a resume / cover letter, engaging in a job search, filling out job applications, developing a reference list, interviewing, networking, self-advocacy, effective communication, and conflict resolution. Provide Core Rehabilitation Services, including work-based learning, orientation, independent living, volunteering opportunities, and self-advocacy. Assist program participants with job and career exploration, including visits to training sites, programs, and local employers, to provide job development and job coaching. Perform outreach and education activities to identify potential employers for program participants. Maintain professional relationships and provide education and presentations to employers, agencies, BOCES administrators, and training sites about employment options for students with disabilities. Prepare and maintain documentation, including intake data, case notes, and goal related accomplishments in the ILS database system. Develop and participate in peer support events to encourage all participants to interact with one another and learn about competitive employment. Other duties as assigned. |

| Qualifications: Bachelor's degree; or Associate's degree and one year of related experience; or high school diploma or equivalent and two years of related vocational and /or human services experience. Professional and lived experience may be considered in lieu of, in full or part of academic credentials. |
