Every year\, the national\nmedia covers dozens of stories about murders of people with disabilities by family members or caregivers\, with\nmany going unreported. Too often\, the coverage focuses on sympathy for the murderer because they had to live\nwith\, or care for\, a person with a disability. The message being portrayed to the public is our lives – not our deaths –\nare the tragedy. \n\nDuring our annual candlelight vigil\, we will be reading the names aloud of the people with disabilities who were\nmurdered. We understand this action is triggering to some\, however\, it is important we come together as a community\nto acknowledge the lives of these individuals. We will also share individuals’ personal stories\, to commemorate their\ncontributions to our community. \nJoin us\, and the Disability Community across the nation\, in reminding the world our lives are worth living! \nThe venue is accessible.
