Sr. HR Specialist



Employment Type: Full-Time
Summary:
Perform Human Resource functions including benefits, personnel policies, pay rate, hiring, retention, termination, personnel records, legal compliance, compensation, safety, and health and staffing strategies.
Duties:
  • Benefit Administration: Performs benefits administration to include functions such as enrollment, claims resolution, change reporting, and communicating benefit information to employees, track eligibility and submit appropriate employee benefit paperwork to benefit administrator.
  • Workers Compensation: Responds to inquiries, files appropriate reports, monitors monthly invoice and claims, and other related functions.
  • Disability/STD/FMLA/ LOA: File claims, claims resolution, change reporting, approving invoices for payment, and communicating information to employees. Make recommendation to Director of HR for Early Return to Work candidates.
  • Unemployment: Responds to inquiries, files appropriate reports, monitors monthly invoice and claims, attend hearings, and other related functions.
  • Wage Data/Deductions/garnishments: Provide finance documentation of additions, changes and new employee wage.
  • Recruitment: Maintain applicant database, assist applicants in acquiring all necessary information to be considered for employment, other recruitment activities, including participation in job fairs, contacting community services, colleges, employment agencies, recruiters, media, and internet sites. Perform recruiting (as applicable) for business unit, including advertising, tracking and screening candidates, interview scheduling, background and reference checking.
  • Risk Management: Leads the safety committee. Develops and administers health & wellness and safety programs. Conducts workplace inspections and safety audits. Maintains accident records. Reviews incidents, near misses, accident investigation reports, claim summaries and loss analyses to prevent reoccurrences of similar incidents. Prepares government reports as to remain in compliance.
  • Address employee relations issues with appropriate staff, provide recommendations regarding disciplinary actions, EAP, and terminations ensuring that reason are well documented and are not arbitrary or discriminatory.
  • Adhere to all state, federal, and DOH regulations. Keep abreast of legislation affecting human resources; counsel management and monitor company policies to ensure compliance in assigned business unit.
  • Participates in administrative staff meetings and attends other meetings and seminars.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in use of Web Office, DBMan (as necessary) and ADP/Paychex systems. Access records and compile reports as necessary.
  • Provide reports, statistics and any additional tasks or projects as assigned by the Assistant Director of Human Resources. May perform other duties or projects as assigned.

  • Interpersonal skills needed to deal with diverse groups of individuals.
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision, self-directed, able to effectively research, solves problems.
  • Must be organized, needs to be proficient in computer software programs, especially Excel and Word of MS Office Suite, Web Office, DBMan, Email, and ADP.
  • Customer service or human service skills are beneficial to this position.
  • Appropriate telephone skills and a professional demeanor required as you are dealing with confidential employee information.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 2 year of HR Specialist experience;
  • Bachelors degree and recruiting experience preferred.
  • Proficient written and oral language skills.
  • Strong customer service skills and mindset are beneficial to this position.
  • Possess excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Effectively communicate with coworkers and all levels of management.
  • Interpersonal skills needed to deal with diverse groups of individuals.
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision, self-directed and able to effectively research and solve problems.
  • Must be well organized and detail oriented.
  • Needs to be proficient in computer software programs, especially Excel and Word, Outlook; experience with ADP preferred.
  • Appropriate telephone skills and a professional demeanor required as you are dealing with confidential employee information.
