SWOT = Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats

As a step in the Strategic Planning process CDR is conducting a SWOT Analysis, a study undertaken by an organization to identify its internal strengths and weaknesses, as well as its external opportunities and threats. We are looking for input from consumers, members, staff, colleagues and community members.

Internal and External Factors in the SWOT Analysis:

Strengths and Weaknesses – These are internal factors. In general, you are looking for what characteristics give your business an advantage or disadvantage over others in achieving the objective.

An example of a Strength – Being an Independent Living Center, leadership is over 50% people with disabilities.

An example of a Weakness – Outgrowing our space.

Opportunities and Threats – The external elements influencing your business. External factors are typically outside of your control – even weather and seasonal changes can influence business goals.

An example of an Opportunity – Partnering with other agencies to achieve goals.

An example of a Threat – Inadequate Medicaid reimbursement rates for services.

Part of the analysis is to examine how external opportunities and threats relate to internal strengths and weaknesses in order to determine whether an objective is even attainable and create a strategy for moving forward.

Before you start, here is a little background:
